Privacy

The short version: ThisPlayShelf keeps what it needs to run your shelf, sells nothing, and lets you take everything with you or delete it.

Your account

Your email address and password are handled by Amazon Cognito, Amazon's sign-in service. Your password never reaches ThisPlayShelf's servers: signing in proves you know it without sending it.

What's stored

Your username and display name, your collections and everything you put in them, and when things were created. These live in a Postgres database run by Neon on Amazon's servers in the United States. Your email address isn't kept there.

Who can see what

Private collections are visible only to you. Public collections, your username and your display name can be seen by anyone.

Cookies and browser storage

A cookie remembers your username so pages draw correctly while they load. Others remember your colour theme and whether the sidebar's collections are folded. Your sign-in is kept in your browser's storage. There are no tracking or advertising cookies.

Measuring speed

About a quarter of visits report how quickly pages load: anonymous timings, with no account or address attached. The server records which kinds of page were requested and how long they took, never what you typed.

Other services

Cover images load straight from IGDB, so IGDB sees your browser's address when you view them, as any website would.

Take it with you, or delete it

In Settings you can export everything as spreadsheet files, or delete your account. Deleting removes your account and everything you've added. The database host keeps a few hours of history for recovery, after which it's gone for good.
